Special Search Words |

Some of these special search words work with different search engines and some don't. Try them with your favorite search engine.
keyword = broad match
"keyword" = use quotes to match exact phrase
[keyword] = use square brackets to match exact term only
-keyword = use minus sign to tell the search engine don't match this term
keyword* = use an asterisk as a wild card to cover all possible extensions
~keyword = use approximate symbol to perform a 'similar phrase' search on that word only (e.g.: ~video returns film, movie, MPEG, VHS)
keyword1 or keyword2 = use "or" to provide more results, especially if doing a comparison
before: date and after: date = use a date or dates to narrow the time frame
more keywords often provide more accurate results

To find web sites that are linked to your web site, in a search engine type:
link:www.yourwebsite.com (i.e. link:www.mystoryboard.com)
To list all your indexed web pages, in a search engine type:
site:www.yourwebsite.com (i.e. site:www.mystoryboard.com)
To check the ranking of a web page, in a search engine type:
url:yourwebsite.com (i.e. url:mystoryboard.com)
domain:yourwebsite.com (i.e. domain:mystoryboard.com) {an alternative}
domain:yourwebsite.com originalurlpath:products (i.e. domain:mystoryboard.com originalurlpath:products) {checks the "products" directory}
To view the source of a web page, in a search engine type:
view-source:www.yourwebsite.com/index.html (i.e. view-source:www.mystoryboard.com/index.html)
